Tons of garbage pile up after party

T

ons of garbage from the people'€™s party celebrating the inauguration of President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo on Monday remained piled up at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

Monas management head Rini Hariyani acknowledged that a human resources shortage had caused the inconvenience.

'€œOur cleaners had worked since Friday and most of them are off duty today. That'€™s why the cleaning process hasn'€™t been at its optimum level,'€ she said at her office on Tuesday, pointing out that the management employed 350 cleaners in total.

She said the management aimed to clean up the mess immediately.

Rini also said that the party had ruined Monas'€™ gardens.

'€œI will ask the committee to take responsibility. But I understand [the members] might still be tired from the event, so I will set the deadline for next week,'€ she said.

Tens of thousands people attended the party at Monas, which was held from 2 p.m. until almost midnight. Jokowi greeted the attendees at 6:30 p.m.
