Ahok welcomes schoolchildren into his office

T

he office of acting Jakarta governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama was on Friday invaded by a group of schoolchildren taking part in an event organized by the Jakarta Kids Festival at City Hall.

The children were taking part in a Jakarta Kids Festival event entitled '€œMelihat Gubernur Bekerja'€ (Observing the Governor at Work), which was held on Friday morning. Reports from inside Ahok'€™s office say that his staff halted their work when the children, mostly aged 5 to 10 years old, excitedly rushed into the office.

Ahok himself greeted the children as they indulged their curiosities, eating the fruit on Ahok'€™s desk, eagerly sitting on the same desk and asking for photographs with the acting governor.

'€œ[Former Jakarta governor] Pak Foke worked in this office for ten years, and from here we can see Monas [the National Monument],'€ Ahok said as he laughed and informed the children of his office'€™s features, as quoted by kompas.com.

The group of children stared in awe at the monument from the window when Ahok pointed it out to them. Afterwards, a student presented him with a biography of Soeharto as a gift, which Ahok happily received.

The Jakarta Kids Festival has a weekly schedule of events running from Oct. 24 until Dec. 20, and also including cultural festivals held by the Mexican and French Embassies on Nov. 15. The venue for these events is not listed on the festival's website as of Friday. (dyl/nfo)(++++)
