n analyst has called on President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo to appoint a figure from outside of the Attorney General's Office (AGO) as the new attorney general.
Former commissioner of the Attorneys Commission Kamilov Sagala said that only an outsider could make breakthroughs within the AGO, which had long been deemed one of the most corrupt legal enforcement agencies in the country.
'As a matter of fact, everybody at the AGO should be replaced and reform started from within,' Kamilov said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Jokowi left the position vacant when he inaugurated 34 ministers in his Cabinet and had yet to name a new attorney general as of Wednesday.
Several figures have been touted for the position, including two candidates from within the AGO: deputy attorney general Andhi Nirwanto and junior attorney general for special crimes Widyo Pramono.
Potential outsider candidates include Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) chief Muhammad Yusuf, former law and human rights minister Hamid Awaluddin and former judicial mafia task force member Mas Achmad Santosa.
