n anticipation of the rainy season, the city administration will install disaster-warning systems in flood-prone subdistricts such as Bidaracina and Kampung Melayu in East Jakarta, Ulujami and Petogogan in South Jakarta, as well as Rawa Buaya in West Jakarta.
Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Bambang Musyawardana said that the systems' sirens would sound if the threat of flooding was imminent so that residents could prepare themselves. The systems will also be fitted out with loudspeakers.
'The systems will be installed in three RWs [community units] across each subdistrict. The systems were donated by Japanese company Japan Radio Company,' Bambang said on Thursday at City Hall as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that the system would inform residents of elevated water levels that could affect their areas. 'When water levels in the Puncak area and Katulampa in West Java rise, residents will be informed through the loudspeakers.'
