Nusakambangan squatters to be evicted

The Cilacap regency administration in Central Java is preparing to evict this week hundreds of squatters living on Nusakambangan Island.

'€œBased on our data, there are around 300 squatter families currently living on Nusakambangan. This cannot be tolerated and this endangers the Nusakambangan area. So, we have coordinated with security personnel and decided to evict them forcefully,'€ Cilacap regency Public Order Agency chief Ditiasa Pradipta told journalists on Thursday.

Nusakambangan Island, occupied by more than 1,000 people, is located off the coast of Cilacap and is 30 kilometers long and 7 km wide. The island is easily accessed as security officers are only placed at the official entrance at Wijaya Pier.
