Guess what?: Laksmi talks about bird flu and food

J

AKARTA: Author Laksmi Pamuntjak is releasing Aruna dan Lidahnya (Aruna and Her Palate), a semi-fictional look at friendship, traveling and food built around the avian flu outbreak, tempo.co reported on Thursday.

The story focuses on epidemiologist Aruna Rai, who traves to eight cities to investigate bird flu with her friends Bono, a nouvelle cuisine chef, and Nadezhda Azhari, a writer.

The trio visits Bangkalan, Pamekasan, Palembang, Medan, Banda Aceh, Pontianak, Singkawang, Lombok and Mataram.

Laksmi said she wrote about the food served, not the names of restaurants. '€œThe readers may have figured them out already,'€ she said.

'€œTalking about food can be an ice breaker with strangers. I experienced that everywhere. In this novel, there are life stories that start with food.'€
