he Parepare Regency Police in South Sulawesi on Fridayseized 15,000 detonators from two workers at Ajattappareng Port in Parepare asthey were unloaded from KM Thalia freighter docking from East Kalimantan.
When asked for confirmation by phone, Parepare Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Himawan Sugena said the detonators were part of a shipment addressed to a woman named Saharing, 50, a used clothes trader in Parepare.
Saharing had allegedly hired the two stevedores, Safruddin, 26, and Baharuddin, 24, to unload the contraband.
'When the dock workers were unloading the cargo to send to Saharing's house, the police became suspicious. On examination, the bag was found to contain 15 cartons each containing 100 detonators,' said Himawan.
The detonators are believed to have originated from Tawau in the Malaysian state of Sabah, as previously other similar cases had been found. The police are investigating motives and any indication of the involvement of terror networks in the case.
