Church leaders in Papua have opposed President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's plan to visit the province for a national Christmas celebration in Jayapura on Dec. 27, citing the absence of a response by the state to last Monday's Enarotali shooting incident that claimed the lives of five civilians and injured 21 others.
The opposition was expressed by the Papuan Ecumene Churches Forum during a press briefing in Jayapura last Thursday.

This might sounds like a conspiracy theory, but I think whoever 'owns' Papua and her rich resources is beginning to put pressure on the Indonesian government; if Jokowi dares to interfere with their interest there, they will put their foot down.
I can't help but wonder which came first, the killing of Papuan civilians or Jokowi's plan to visit Papua? Jokowi has to be careful here, he might follow in BJ's footsteps and lose a region during his tenure.

It is quite disappointing and concerning to see Jokowi appearing to ignore this call for justice. He was mainly elected to make a change.

Mr. President, you will notice that your children no longer respect you when they stop asking you where you are and refuse to tell you where they're heading to.

Basically the Papuans are saying Jokowi is not their President. Can he change that perception?
Time is running out very fast and this last incident may be the turning point on the road to independence. Inaction is losing Jokowi credibility. Unless he demonstrates some leadership he could well end up being the President who ends 'from Sabang to Merauke'.
