egional airline Kalstar Aviation will soon operate two Embraer E195 narrowbody jets, making it the first airline in Indonesia to operate Embraer commercial jets, the Brazilian airframer said in a media statement on Tuesday.

'€œWe are proud to be the first Embraer operator in Indonesia and we look forward to enhancing our operations, especially in the Kalimantan area, with the introduction of these E195s,'€ Kalstar Aviation CEO Andi Masyhur said in a statement issued in Singapore.

'€œThe E195 gives us the opportunity to open new routes and provide better connectivity, frequency and passenger comfort to the people of Kalimantan. We believe that passengers will greatly value the two-plus-two cabin layout, which offers unrivalled comfort in this segment.'€

Kalstar Aviation is based in South Tangerang, Banten, although most of its flight network links provincial capitals and smaller towns in Kalimantan, such as Palangkaraya and Pangkalanbun, Central Kalimantan; Banjarmasin and Kotabaru, South Kalimantan; Tarakan and Malinau, North Kalimantan; Balikpapan and Samarinda, East Kalimantan; and Pontianak and Ketapang in West Kalimantan.

The airline, which also flies to Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya and Makassar, currently operates Franco-Italian ATR 42-300 and ATR 72-600 regional turboprop aircraft and American-made Boeing 737-300/500 narrowbody aircraft.

Meanwhile, Embraer Commercial Aviation president and CEO Paulo Cesar Silva said that Indonesia's geography presented an ideal platform for the E-Jets.

"Its secondary and tertiary cities spread across many islands offer opportunities for enhanced connectivity and frequency,'€ he said in the statement.

'€œI would like to congratulate Kalstar Aviation as they boost their fleet and enter their next growth phase. We are confident that the E-Jets'€™ sound economics and enhanced passenger comfort will add value to their operations.'€

The E195s will operate to and from Kalimantan on routes within Indonesia to be announced by Kalstar Aviation in due course, the statement said.

Embraer said the aircraft were being sourced from Aldus Aviation, Ireland, without detailing a procurement timeframe. (nvn)
