FM urges Malaysia to heed RI workers'€™ rights

F

oreign Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi has urged Malaysian oil palm plantation owners to pay attention to the security, welfare and basic rights of Indonesian migrant workers that they employ.

Retno made the remarks in a dialogue with over 100 Indonesian migrant workers in Kuala Lumpur during her working visit to Malaysia on Sunday.

The minister reiterated the commitment of the Indonesian government to always help settle disputes faced by Indonesian migrant workers overseas.

She also gave advice to Malaysian companies on how to deal with various issues, including issues related to licensing and migrant workers.

She added that the government had received input on how to improve recruiting and licensing in the country.

'€œOne concrete policy implemented by the Indonesian government to give maximum services and protection is the provision of a hotline, to help migrant workers in Malaysia easily contact Indonesia'€™s representative offices,'€ she said as quoted by Antara news agency. (***)
