UK marks 50th anniversary of Churchill'€™s funeral

Britain is paying tribute to Winston Churchill with a memorial service to mark the 50th anniversary of the wartime leader'€™s funeral.

Prime Minister David Cameron will attend a remembrance service at Parliament to remember Churchill'€™s leadership during World War II.

Later Friday the Havengore, the boat that carried the statesman'€™s coffin along the Thames in 1965, will carry Churchill'€™s family as it retraces its journey down the river.

Tower Bridge will be raised as the boat and a small flotilla travels to the Houses of Parliament.

Churchill was prime minister of Britain from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. His political career spanned 64 years, the longest in Britain in the 20th century. He died Jan. 24, 1965. '€” AP
