Govt to increase narcotics rehab facilities

T

he National Narcotics Agency (BNN) is collaborating with the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police to improve rehabilitation facilities for drug users.

'€œWe will use unused barracks of the TNI and the police as rehabilitation centers,'€ BNN head Comr. Gen. Anang Iskandar said on Saturday as quoted by Antara news agency.

During an event to raise awareness about the rehabilitation of narcotics users, Anang said the BNN would also enhance cooperation with the Health Ministry to make rehab facilities available in half of the psychiatric hospitals in Indonesia.

Anang said cooperation between the government and civil society was crucial in reaching the government'€™s target of rehabilitating 100,000 drug users in Indonesia in 2015.

'€œThis year'€™s target is higher than the only 2,000 people last year,'€ he said.

According to the BNN, the number of drug users in Indonesia has increased to 4 million people, and to be able to rehabilitate them all, at least 100,000 people must be provided with the necessary rehab facilities.(***)
