Four die in landslides in Bengkulu

Four people were killed in landslides that struck two villages in Rejanglebong regency, Bengkulu, on Sunday.

Three of the victims, all family members, died in Tanjung Agung village, while another was found dead in separate landslide in Lubuk Alai.

Head of the Bengkulu Search and Rescue Agency, Kolendri, said the incessant rain on Saturday and Sunday had caused landslides in a number of areas in the province.

Head of the logistics section at the Rejanglebong agency for the handling of natural disasters, Andi, said the three-member family was killed by the landslide as they were in their home, which was located on a steep hill very prone to landslides.

The three were buried in their village on Sunday while the other victim, who was recovered after going missing, was buried in Lubuk Alai village on the same day, according to Antara news agency.

Andi said a team had been deployed to the disaster site to survey damage caused by the landslide and assess victims' needs regarding logistics and supplies. (rms).
