The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said on Sunday that its legal division team had prepared arguments to face the pretrial hearing of a lawsuit against its decision to slap a graft suspect status onto National Police chief candidate Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan.
KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha said that the antigraft body's legal team had clear legal grounds for naming Budi a suspect and that the decision to name a person a suspect was not part of the material that should be examined at a pretrial hearing.
Your comments:
If the KPK wants to name Budi Gunawan a suspect, then go for it. But if the police name KPK commissioners Bambang Widjojanto and Abraham Samad as suspects, the KPK should also accept that!
What's happening now is the KPK is aggressively arresting people but it doesn't want its people to get arrested even though they did something wrong in the past! Double standards, isn't it?

The qualitative difference is that of honesty. The case against Budi was known even before his nomination ' the KPK just had not gathered together enough evidence to formally declare him a suspect. The KPK has a great track record of honesty and proper use of evidence to convict.
In short, the KPK is honest and making a genuine case.
The police, however, are known for utter corruption and actively running drug and prostitution rings and doing deals with members of the House of Representatives.
The cases are clearly fabricated and designed to intimidate and to prevent an investigation into Budi. Even delays mean more pressure to inaugurate Budi pending a KPK prosecution at which point it will be harder to unseat him.
In short, the police are dishonest and it's clear the cases are made up.
In a way, it's case of a real prosecution versus unlawful arrest but, yes, both should be proven in a court of law ' and police generals should be sued and thrown out of the force. But we know that won't happen.
The police know they can destroy the KPK if they make it ineffective. If all the leaders of the KPK are forced out of office because of trumped-up charges then not only will the investigation into Budi stall but also all other investigations.
