he Medan District Court began on Wednesday the trial of three men who allegedly smuggled 25 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 30,000 ecstasy pills into the country from Malaysia.
Prosecutor Yunitri Sagala charged the men ' Ramlan Siregar, 48, Rahmat Suwito, 31, and Amri Prayoga, 33 ' under the 2009 Narcotics Law, which carries a maximum punishment of death.
Yunitri said the police had apprehended the men after arresting another suspect, Hendra Gunawan, in a supermarket parking lot on Jl. Tritura, Medan, on Nov. 9 last year and confiscated 0.5 grams of crystal meth.
She said police apprehended the defendants three days after the arrest of Hendra, who claimed he obtained the drug from Ramlan.
