Islands in focus: Sarpin'€™s brother files report against lecturers

T

he younger brother of South Jakarta District Court judge Sarpin Rizaldi, Alfikri Mukhlis, and the customary chief of 2X11 Kayu Taman district, Padang Pariaman, have filed a police report against Andalas University (Unand) State Administrative Law School lecturers Charles Simabura and Feri Amsari.

'€œWe reported them for an article entitled '€˜Sarpin exiled through customary law'€™ in the Padang Ekspres daily,'€ Alfikri told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

He said the claim was untrue because only a clan uncle could exile a person after consultation in the Minangkabau tradition.

Charles said Sarpin'€™s family had wrongly interpreted the news.

Sarpin, who annulled the suspect status of police general Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan in a pretrail hearing, had been '€œexiled'€ as an alumnus of the university'€™s law school, not the Minangkabau community.
