eliberations on internal rulings descended into chaos on the second day of the National Mandate Party (PAN) congress, prompting the party's steering committee to adjourn the morning session.
Outgoing PAN deputy chairman Bara Hasibuan said the chaos occurred when a participant from North Maluku questioned the status of 10 other participants from the province in terms of with their voting rights in the party chairmanship election.
'Only 10 people [were flagged] but it is a sensitive issue in connection with their voting rights during the chairmanship election,' Bara said on Sunday.
According to the steering committee, 593 official delegates from the executive board and provincial, regency and municipal chapters have the right to vote at the congress.
Bara questioned the organizing committee's decision not to allow participants without the correct accreditation to take part in the congress.
'There are several delegates at the congress who are not allowed to attend the deliberation sessions because they failed to show their credentials,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Meanwhile, the deputy chairman of the steering committee, Farhan Hamid, said there were eight participants whose participation in the congress had become troublesome. Of the eight participants, five were from North Maluku and three from East Nusa Tenggara.
'After a meeting, the steering and organizing committees finally decide to annul the eight's participation in the congress. That means that only 584 delegates will have voting rights, because one delegate died before the congress,' he explained. (rms)
