he Indonesian government repatriated 27 students, some of whom were with their relatives, from Yemen on Thursday because of the deteriorating security situation in the Middle Eastern country, the Foreign Ministry has said.
The ministry stated that the Indonesian nationals returned to Indonesia voluntarily and were assisted by the Indonesian Embassy in Sanaa in coordination with the Yemeni authorities.
With the arrival of this second batch, the Indonesian government has evacuated 47 Indonesian citizens from Yemen so far.
Some 4,159 Indonesian citizens are currently living in Yemen, 1,488 of whom are migrant workers, while the remainder are students.
The tense political situation in Yemen escalated after the Yemeni president and prime minister resigned on Jan. 22, and rebel leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi took over as leader of the country.
Considering the escalating tensions in Yemen, the Indonesian government has issued a travel advisory for Indonesians planning to visit the country.
'We urge Indonesian citizens who plan to go to Yemen to postpone their travel plans," the ministry's spokesman, Arrmanatha Nasir, said in a recent statement, Antara news agency quoted. (++++)
