he Jambi Social, Manpower and Transmigration Office is currently probing the deaths of 11 members of the nomadic Orang Rimba tribal community in the Bukit Duabelas National Park (TNBD), allegedly from hunger. The case will also be investigated by the central government.
Jambi Social, Manpower and Transmigration Office Social Empowerment Affairs head Sarifudin confirmed the Indonesian Conservation Community (KKI Warsi) finding, which is being followed up by the Social Affairs Ministry.
Sarifudin said the ministry's institutional evaluation and report division head, Laude Taupik, would discuss the issue with the Jambi provincial administration and relevant agencies before going to the location.
'KKI Warsi released the information on the deaths of 11 Orang Rimba tribespeople, who allegedly died from a food and water shortage,' said Sarifudin on Thursday.
He received information that the representative from the Social Ministry was still in Jakarta, while the incident had taken place in Pauh district, within TNBD. 'The ministry's representative plans to go to Pauh, but the Orang Rimba community has currently wandered to Jeluteh in Durian Luncuk district. We will rearrange the schedule,' said Sarifudin.
