group of Bekasi residents known as the Bekasi Cross-Cultural Community has filed a class action against cellular provider PT Indosat at Bekasi District Court.
The company is alleged to have placed an insulting advertisement on social media.
Indosat lawyer David said after a hearing on Wednesday that the company would respect the decision of the panel of judges, and that it would comply with the court's plan to set up a mediation session between the two parties.
'We will listen to [the plaintiffs'] proposal,' David said as quoted by tempo.co on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Komaruddin Ibnu Mikam, a representative of the community, said his group had asked the company to build a cultural facility for artists and culture enthusiasts in Tambun, Bekasi regency.
'We want the facility to be located in the city center. We want it to be something like Taman Ismail Marzuki,' he said.
The case arose from an advertisement created by an outside advertising agency contracted by Indosat that has featured on social media since late December, and which has offended some people. The slogan reads 'Going on holiday to Australia is easier than going to Bekasi', a reference to Bekasi's notorious traffic congestion.
