n art auction will be carried out at Hard Rock Cafe in Kuta, Bali, on Friday, presenting around 90 paintings by prisoners and ex-prisoners of Kerobokan Penitentiary. The auction is being held in support of the ongoing art program at the prison, which was set up by Myuran Sukumaran, a member of the Bali Nine drug ring currently awaiting execution.
'Kerobokan officials have allowed the event to be organized to raise awareness and funds to continue the rehabilitation programs in the prison,' explained Meg Wolk, an Australian teacher who volunteered to organize the auction.
At the auction, some of Sukumaran's paintings will also be exhibited, but none will be for sale. Among Sukumaran's paintings is a portrait of President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo, signed 'people can change', which was made after the President rejected Sukumaran's clemency appeal.
Wolk said that starting prices for paintings at the auction had been set and only people in attendance would be able to place bids. 'No online buying, cash-only payment at the event,' she said.
