A floral feel for feminine Spring/Summer collections

Two young designers, Jacobs Adhitya and Ingrid Husodo, incorporated the beauty of flowers into their Spring/Summer 2015 collections, highlighting the femininity of their new pieces.

During the Soiree de'€™Mode fashion show at the Grand Indonesia shopping mall in Central Jakarta, Jacobs showcased 22 ready-to-wear dresses from his '€œLost in Paradise'€ collection.

'€œParadise is usually symbolized by flowers and colors, just like my latest collection that is full of flowers,'€ he said.

Jacobs said he liked to use flowers as details in his designs because they were pretty and perfectly represented the beauty of women.

'€œFlowers are pretty and have different characteristics '€” and so do women. They have different characters, but are beautiful in their own ways,'€ he said.

Jacobs applied flowers through the embroidery that embellished the dresses in various colors.

The blue floral embroidery that fully covered the upper part of a transparent long dress and the combination of flower and bird symbols detailing a gold dress showed the sophistication and sexiness of his designs.

Jacobs also dramatically and beautifully incorporated roots into a dress by using 3D embroidery for a ball gown.

He constantly showed his style of elegance in nightgowns designs that were rich in details such as a shiny, one-sleeve gold dress, turtleneck red gown with cape, and a greyish ruffle dress with complex embroidery decorating the upper body.

'€œThe dresses are rich in details, but still wearable because I paired them with lighter materials,'€ he said.

Jacobs also showcased 15 cocktail dresses under his '€œSaint J'€ collection, which were presented by Jakarta socialites.

'€œThe elegance of this ready-to-wear collection is visible from the designs that show off women'€™s body shapes with the application of bold accents,'€ Jacobs said.

The dresses, mostly browns, silvers and golds, were made from taffeta, silk chiffon, sateen and duchess.

Body-fit dresses with slits on the chest are perfect for women to look sexy and stand out in a crowd. Jacobs also showcased many two-piece dresses with simpler details that could make women look more feminine.

Yellowish strapless dresses with belt accents, one-shoulder asymmetrical tops that were paired with brown knee-length skirts and halterneck dusty pink dresses with ruffles gave some sweet touch for the whole collection.

In another segment, Ingrid displayed designs that were influenced from Chinese flowers which became the symbols of Chinese New Year.

'€œThrough my mini-collection, I want to highlight Chinese culture, showing that Chinese New Year is also synonymous with flowers, not only with birds or dragons,'€ Ingrid said.

She used 10 flowers, such as peonies, camellas, azaleas, lotuses, narcissuses and orchids, for the collection, showcasing dresses with Chinese cheongsam necklines that fell to the knee.

Ingrid applied flower-embroidery detailing for some dresses, but she further explored the characteristics of flowers on her design lines.

'€œI designed many cut outs to reflect the shape of the flowers, like V-shape cut out to represent peony, round cut out for camellia and the combination of round and triangle for azalea,'€ she said.

She made the dresses using elegant and silky materials, such as silk sateen, silk organza, soft tulle and laces.

The application of pearls and crystals for the embellishment enhanced the glamorous and modern touch in her classic cheongsam dresses.

All in all, the collections showcased by both designers, who dressed the finalists of Miss World 2013, reflected their creative talents to make dresses that are simple but have appealing details.
