The ministry's director for Asia Pacific and Africa Cooperation, Benyamin Carnadi, said the ministry had received written notification informing the attendance of a North Korean representative at the conference.
'We just sent an invitation. They themselves will decide [who will attend the conference],' Carnadi told The Jakarta Post after attending the rehearsal of the 60th Asia Africa Conference anniversary at the Pakuan building in Bandung on Wednesday.
The conference, which comprises the Asia Africa Business Summit and Asia Africa Carnival, will be held in two cities, Jakarta on April 19-23 and Bandung on April 24.
The Indonesian government has invited 109 leaders of Asian and African countries. Up to 20 countries have reportedly confirmed their attendance at the summits, with eight countries to be represented by a minister and another seven by their leaders.
Among those confirmed are Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Swaziland, Ethiopia and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara, who is the spokesperson for the Asia Africa Conference, said that preparations for the conference were nearly complete.
About 1,300 journalists, both foreign and local, have signed up to cover the events. (dyl/ebf)
