he Finance Ministry's directorate of taxation met on Wednesday with scores of multinational corporations (MNCs) to demand that they comply with the prevailing tax regulations.
'The directorate general has requested that MNCs operating in Indonesia pay their tax obligations in line with prevailing regulations and refrain from evading taxes,' said the directorate's spokesman, Mekar Satria Utama, in a statement.
According to the directorate, taxes paid by MNCs accounted for 25 percent of the country's state revenues last year.' But a number of MNCs use schemes to evade taxes that cause losses to the host country,' she said.
'The director general of taxation has called on foreign taxpayers to act as role models in tax compliance.'
