State leaders, ministers and senior officials from around 70 countries have gathered in Jakarta for talks on issues from terrorism to economic ties during the 60th commemoration of the Asian-African Conference from Monday to Thursday.
The event will then be continued in Bandung where those leaders and officials will take a commemorative walk along the historic Jl. Asia-Afrika.
Sixty years ago, 29 state leaders from the two continents gathered in the West Java capital of Bandung to show to the world their strong diplomatic maneuvers that later led to the rising of the Third World, as well as to the emergence of the Non-Aligned Movement.
This year's conference is expected to be fruitful, producing several historic documents, including a declaration of support for the formation of a sovereign Palestinian state.
Other areas that were raised for discussion included counterterrorism, food security, transnational organized crime, energy security, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), tourism, empowerment of women and the university network.
A lot of hopes have been expressed that such an international event should not only be ceremonially, but should also materialize cooperation in those fields.
