anada has invited Indonesia as a country of honor to participate in the annual processed food trade show in Toronto on April 28-30, an event Indonesia will use to increase trade with Canada.
The Trade Ministry's director general for national export development, Nus Nuzulia Ishak, said that processed food and beverages had a big potential as export commodities.
"Indonesian cuisine is very rich; once items are sophisticatedly processed, packed and marketed, they will be ready to seize the international market," Nus said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Indonesia has participated in the Salon International de L'alimentation (SIAL) food show in Canada since 2012. Up to 25 companies are expected to exhibit at the Indonesian pavilion this year.
Some 14,000 visitors and 800 exhibitors from 45 countries are expected at the 2015 SIAL.
According to Nus, Indonesia suffered a deficit in the US$12.03 billion worth of trade with Canada. "We hope our participation in the SIAL this year will narrow the deficit," she said, adding that Indonesia was Canada's 13th biggest importer in 2014. (++++)
