Greater Jakarta: Jakarta to lend orangutans to Pyongyang

T

he Jakarta administration will lend a pair of orangutans from South Jakarta'€™s Ragunan Zoo to its sister city, Pyongyang, North Korea.

Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama said that during a recent meeting, Pyongyang asked the city administration to borrow a pair of orangutans to breed in their local zoo.

'€œDelegates from North Korea asked me for the orangutans. We will lend them a pair. Once the orangutans give birth and the babies are old enough to survive by themselves, Pyongyang will return the orangutans to us and breed the babies themselves,'€ he said.

Ahok said that traditionally, Jakarta should ask Pyongyang for something in return. However, he said he had not yet thought about what he could ask for.
