he Jakarta administration will lend a pair of orangutans from South Jakarta's Ragunan Zoo to its sister city, Pyongyang, North Korea.
Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said that during a recent meeting, Pyongyang asked the city administration to borrow a pair of orangutans to breed in their local zoo.
'Delegates from North Korea asked me for the orangutans. We will lend them a pair. Once the orangutans give birth and the babies are old enough to survive by themselves, Pyongyang will return the orangutans to us and breed the babies themselves,' he said.
Ahok said that traditionally, Jakarta should ask Pyongyang for something in return. However, he said he had not yet thought about what he could ask for.
