KUPANG: East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Governor Frans Lebu Raya says he has revoked the licenses of 43 non-compliant migrant worker-placement firms (PJTKI)
UPANG: East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Governor Frans Lebu Raya says he has revoked the licenses of 43 non-compliant migrant worker-placement firms (PJTKI). 'This is also aimed as a warning to other PJTKIs,' Frans told the media on Friday.
Frans said the government would strengthen control at exit points, such as airports and sea ports by deploying Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force members. He added that this year alone, the task force was able to foil attempts to illegally send overseas 297 migrant workers (TKI).
He said the government would also formulate a bylaw on TKI placements abroad. 'Through the bylaw, we hope to suppress the illegal placement of TKIs overseas,' he added.
NTT PJTKI Association head Abraham Paul Liyanto said the illegal TKI-placement business was very tempting, as a middleman could earn a monthly salary of up to Rp 30 million (US$2,300).
