he Supreme Court has rejected a case review filed by convicted drug trafficker, Indonesian Zainal Abidin, 50, who was sentenced to death in 2001.
Attorney General's Office (AGO) spokesman Tony Spontana said Monday the office had received the court's decision on the case-review request on Friday.
"We received on Friday information from the court that the second [case] review filed by Zainal was rejected. The verdict statement will be issued today," he said.
Amid widespread pleas for clemency for foreign citizens set to be executed on Tuesday or Wednesday, Zainal's case has attracted comparatively little attention
No street marches or social media campaigns have been held for him as they have for several of the other convicts slated for death by firing squad this week.
On Dec. 21, 2000, Zainal was arrested at his residence in Palembang, South Sumatra, holding 58.7 kilograms of marijuana, the possession and consumption of which has been declared legal in several developed countries.
Zainal is among nine death-row inmates set to be executed. The eight others are from Australia, Ghana, Nigeria, Brazil and the Philippines. (ren)
