The government has confirmed another Indonesian survivor of the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25.
The Foreign Ministry has received information that Dewi Pancaringtyas, one of the five Indonesians still missing in Nepal, was safe from the disaster that had resulted in the deaths of more than 7,800 people.
The ministry's director for the protection of Indonesian nationals, Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, said that the ministry received a call on Friday from Dewi's relative informing her good condition. "A family member called to say that Dewi was safe from harm and still in Nepal," Iqbal said in a statement, on Friday.
The tally for Indonesian survivors has thus increased by one, with four people remaining to be found.
The good news comes amid efforts by the Indonesian mission in Nepal to locate three missing Indonesian climbers.
The Indonesian disaster relief and evacuation team in Nepal, consisting of two Foreign Ministry officials, two Taruna Hiking Club (THC) members and one Indonesian Air Force personnel, made its way to Langtang using a Sheer Air EC 350 aircraft.
The team, led by Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh and Nepal Iwan Wiranataatmadja, was on the ground to monitor the location where identification documents of Alma Parahita, one of the three missing climbers, were found among the items of the 120 deceased retrieved from Langtang following the earthquake and a massive avalanche in the area.
The two-hour search and rescue (SAR) operation, was used to mark the Everest Guest House in Langtang for easier access in future investigations, ambassador Iwan said.
"Following the instructions of the foreign minister, the Langtang voyage was aimed at verifying the location where Alma Parahita's identification was found. We also took the opportunity to coordinate with the Nepalese army in the area," Iwan said in a statement. (++++)
