n earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted West Halmahera in North Maluku on Wednesday morning, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
Suharman, head of the Kotabumi Geophysics Station in Kotabumi, Lampung, said the epicenter of the quake was 1.91 degrees North and 126.42 degrees East at a depth of 10 kilometers (km).
The quake was located 139 km to the northwest of West Halmahera, 147 km to the southeast of Siautagulandang Biaro and 181 km to the northeast of Manado, North Sulawesi.
The BMKG said that the quake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami. (hhr)(++++)
