former Indonesian Navy member, Suwanto, 34, has been discharged for desertion after allegedly abducting Ivan, 6, the son of his girlfriend and café singer Wahyuni, 30.
Suwanto was reportedly jealous because Wahyuni had used a profile picture of another male on her BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) application. Police were able to arrest Suwanto and take back the child.
Suwanto, who was arrested by officers from the Bangkong Police in Batam on Monday, said he could not accept that Wahyuni would get married again and leave him. Wahyuni's intention to marry was known from her BBM profile photo.
'I cannot accept her getting married to another man. She has been married four times. I feel sorry for the child. He will be confused about who his father is, so I took him. I was not abducting or kidnapping him,' said Suwanto, who was arrested together with his friend who abetted in the crime.
Police arrested Suwanto as he was hiding in a mosque in the Sangrilla housing estate on Monday at 3 a.m. local time. Suwanto also took some of Wahyuni's valuable belongings.
