Jambi Police chief Brig. Gen. Bambang Sudarisman said on Sunday that at least 43 police officers had been dismissed over the last year for consuming drugs. 'A drug emergency has been declared in Jambi due to rampant drug use,' Bambang said, adding that the Jambi Police would not hesitate to take stern action against any officers involved in drug-related cases.

It is the same news about the police: corrupt, drug users and dealers and as usual, above the law. When will this country start enforcing the law? It's really getting old reading the same news about these police, supported by the corrupt government. People really need to stand up against these people who are free to continue to terrorize the masses.

You have got rampant drug use by youths in Jambi and elsewhere in Indonesia because of the lack of hope. Parents have no jobs, no income and no education, poverty, littering, dilapidated roads and homes and deep despair have led the young masses into substance abuse in this country. It's a fast exit from the daily grind of just existing in Indonesia. What a shame. The country has no drug prevention policy because that money gets stolen by sticky-fingered officials.

For substance abuse among public enforcement personnel, dismissal is not sufficient and agencies and ministries should not be afraid of lawsuits. The law is the law and frivolous attempts to squeeze money out of the system must be dealt with sternly and vigorously! A policeman is supposed to prevent substance abuse among the populace!
