he Bandung branch of the state-railway operator KAI said the Saturday evening collision between a Bangunkarta passenger train serving Jakarta-Surabaya and a freight train at Waruduwur Station in Cirebon regency, West Java, would not affect train trips on the southern route.
'The train crash at Waruduwur Station has had no impact on train activities on the southern route, as train trips can be rerouted to an alternative route connecting Cirebon-Prupuk-Tegal,' spokesperson Zunerfin said as quoted by Antara in Bandung on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Harina trains serving Bandung-Semarang-Surabaya suffered delays as they had to be rerouted, creating logjams.
Harina trains from Surabaya to Bandung normally pass the Waruduwur Station route, but have since been rerouted to the Cirebon-Prupuk-Tegal route,' said Zunerfin, adding that just two Harina trains from Bandung had been transferred to the alternative route.
He said the Bandung KAI office was continuing to coordinate with the Cirebon KAI office to ensure train travel ran smoothly. (ebf)(+++)
