he leadership of the House of Representatives is scheduled to meet with a delegation from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) to discuss the possibility of the agency conducting an audit of the General Elections Commission (KPU).
'Through this audit, we want to know whether the KPU can function financially during the upcoming regional elections, because the funds required for the elections are substantial,' House deputy speaker Agus Hermanto told reporters on the sidelines of a plenary meeting on Thursday.
Agus said he applauded House Commission II's suggestion of a KPU audit as it was necessary to evaluate all activities conducted by the election body.
Agus said the planned meeting would involve BPK representatives and Commission II lawmakers.
Fellow House deputy speaker Taufik Kurniawan said the audit was needed because the KPU had not been subject to an audit since the 2014 presidential and legislative elections.
Commission II chairman Rambe Kamarulzaman said the commission had agreed that the BPK should perform an audit on the KPU because funding for regional elections had ballooned from Rp 4 trillion [US$302 million] to Rp 7 trillion.
