ccompanied by First Lady Iriana, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and his entourage arrived at Mutiara Sis Aljufri Airport in Palu, Central Sulawesi, at 9:09 a.m. local time on Friday for a two-day working visit.
At the airport the head of state was greeted by Central Sulawesi Governor Longki Djanggola and numerous regional officials with a local traditional ceremony, Antara news agency reported.
Jokowi's visit to Central Sulawesi is his first after he was inaugurated as president in October 2014.
From the airport, Jokowi boarded a military helicopter to Morowali regency, where he will inaugurate a nickel processing plant.
Central Sulawesi is one of the major nickel producing regions in Indonesia, with approximately 300 mining license holders (IUPs), producing crude nickel (ores) that have been the province's largest foreign exchange earner.
The nickel processing plant in Morowali was built by PT Sulawesi Mining Investment, a joint venture between local firm PT Bintang Delapan Group and China's Tsingshan Holding Group. (hhr)
