oung Indonesian shuttlers dominated the Asian School Badminton Championship by winning the boys' and girls' team events at Bandar Baru, Batam, Riau Islands.
The girls' team defeated Thailand 3-0 in the finals on Wednesday while the boys had to toil before overcoming Malaysia 3-2, a release from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) said.
In the girls' finals, Gregoria Mariska opened Indonesia's campaign by defeating Kanlaha Laksika, 21-14, 21-18. Apriani Rahayu and Jauza Fadillah Sugiarto contributed the second point after thumping Charoenwat Chonnica and Tanaseesookkhasem Tamontond 21-11, 21-16 before sealing the victory with a 21-10, 21-11 win over Lerthattasin Manassanan.
In the boys' finals, Indonesia fell two points behind before winning the next three matches. Vega Vio Nirwanda lost to Lee Zii Jia 19-21, 11-21 and Enzi Safira went down to Soh Wooi Yik 22-24, 13-21.
M. Fachrikar and Muhammad Reiza Fahlevi gave their team a lifeline by beating Kam Sing Siong and Leong Jun Hau, 21-19, 21-17. Afterwards, Indonesia did not look back with Panji Ahmad Maulana overcoming Tan Jia Wei, 21-18, 10-21, 21-12 and Giovani Dicky Oktavan and Wisnu Cahyo Saputra succeeding over Lee Zii Jia and Soh Wooi Yik, 21-17, 21-17.
The competition continued on Thursday with individual matches until Saturday.
