he Transportation Agency plans to apply an electronic parking system at the IRTI parking lot at the National Monument (Monas) park in Central Jakarta to curb illegal parking levies.
The head of the Transportation Agency's parking unit, Sunardi Sinaga, said that while the parking lot currently applied a progressive parking charge system, a number of parking attendants allegedly charged visitors an illegal flat parking fee during busy periods.
'I mean to apply a non-cash parking system; no parking attendants will receive cash anymore,' he said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.
The electronic system at the IRTI lot would be similar to that recently applied on Jl. Agus Salim, also known as Jl. Sabang, in Central Jakarta.
The IRTI lot is a dedicated parking lot, known as off-street parking, while Jl. Sabang sees on-street parking.
Sunardi added that his unit would submit the proposal to change the parking payment system to the Financial and Asset Management Board (BPKAD) soon and that he expected to see the application of the new system by August.
