he government will raise the fuel supply by between 5 and 20 percent to anticipate swelling consumption during the fasting month and the Idul Fitri holiday.
The daily supply of premium gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and avtur will be lifted gradually starting during the fasting month, which begins next week, according to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry's oil and gas director general IGN Wiratmaja Puja.
The average increase for premium gasoline will be 17.8 percent, taking average supply to 89,817 kiloliters per day, up from 76,258 kl per day, 10 percent for avtur taking it to 12,701 kl, up from 11,534 kl per day and 5 percent for LPG, up to 20,782 tons per day from 19,794 tons per day.
'The increase will vary in different areas because we understand that there are areas with higher consumption, particularly those located along the routes of the annual Idul Fitri exodus,' Wiratmaja said.
Meanwhile for diesel fuel, the supply will not be increased. Instead, it will be reduced by around 10 percent to 33,250 kl per day from its usual supply of 37,228 kl per day.
'The reduction is because diesel fuel consumption usually drops during the fasting month and Idul Fitri holiday because many industries are on time off. Industry's consumption of diesel fuel accounts for a significant proportion of total consumption,' Wiratmaja said.
