aw and Human Rights Minister Yasonna H. Laoly has condemned the killing of 8-year-old Angeline in Bali, calling it an uncivilized misdeed that the police should investigate thoroughly.
'Such a wrongdoing is difficult to forgive and totally uncivilized because the victim was a young girl and there was sexual assault and violence. The police will reveal everything from their investigation, including the possibility of there being more than one perpetrator,' he said after attending the wedding reception of President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's eldest son Gibran Rakabumin Raka and Selvi Ananda in Surakarta on Thursday evening.
He said it was not necessary to revise the 2002 Child Protection Law to avoid similar cases in the future because it was enough to protect children in the country.
Separately, Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Yohanna Yambise called for the harshest punishment to be imposed on those found guilty of killing the girl.
She said the police should also investigate Angeline's adoption.(+++)
