ndonesia was assured of a gold medal in badminton after two men'€™s doubles pairs Angga Pratama/ Ricky Karanda Suwardi and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/ Marcus Fernaldi Gideon set up an all-Indonesian final after defeating their respective opponents at the OCBC Arena on Monday.

Angga/Ricky defeated Singapore'€™s only representatives left in the event Danny Bawa Chrisnanta/ Chayut Triyachart 21-12, 21-18 before Kevin/ Marcus faced little trouble in dispatching the Philippines'€™ Ronel Estanislao/ Philip Joper Escueta 21-14, 21-12.

'€œOur opponents in the quarterfinals were tougher than we had today,'€ said Marcus.

He cherished his SEA Games performance and relished Tuesday'€™s challenge for the gold against fellow Indonesians.

'€œWe aimed for the final to be able to contribute a gold medal in the men'€™s doubles event,'€ said Kevin, who began partnering with Marcus just four months ago.

Angga, who won the men'€™s doubles gold in the Myanmar Games in 2013 along with his previous partner Rian Agung Saputro, said that he was keen on emulating his Myanmar achievement with his new partner.

Angga/Ricky won their first tournament as a pair in the Singapore Open in April.

'€œThank God we can secure gold in the men'€™s doubles event. I want to repeat our success in 2013,'€ said Angga.

Ricky said that even though they would be facing compatriots in the final round, they would put up a good fight as both pairs would be competing for the gold medal.

In the women'€™s singles, young player Hanna Ramadini advanced to the finals after defeating Malaysia'€™s Goh Jin Wei 16-21, 21-12, 21-18. She will face a daunting task in the final against Thailand'€™s promising player Busanan Ongbumrungpan.

In the mixed doubles, Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto overcame Thailand'€™s Sudket Prapakamol/ Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-13, 8-21, 21-14.

'€œWe found our rhythm in the first game. We should have maintained our form in the second game. Unfortunately we made many mistakes,'€ said Praveen about the second game'€™s jitters before recovering in the third game.

Unfortunately, hopes for an all-Indonesian final did not materialize after Riky Widianto/Richi Puspita Dili were beaten by Peng Soon Chan/ Liu Ying Goh of Malaysia in the other semifinal match, also in a rubber game 21-18, 18-21, 22-20.

Chairman of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) Gita Wirjawan was among Indonesian spectators at the OCBC Arena.

He said that he was glad to see the young players fight their way to the final round.

'€œWe need to appreciate their efforts,'€ he said, promising to come back to watch the final round on Tuesday.

Indonesia will not feature in the women'€™s doubles finals or men'€™s singles.

Maretha Dea Giovani/ Suci Rizki Andini lost to Amelia Alicia Anscelly/ Fie Cho Soong 16-21, 21-13 while Anggia Shitta Awanda/ Ni Ketut Mahadewi went down to Vivian Kah Mun Hoo/ Khe Wei Woon 12-21, 11-21.

Indonesia'€™s men'€™s singles player Firman Abdul Kholik crashed out early while Jonatan Christie was stopped in quarterfinals.
