KAI begins operation of three commuter stations

tate-owned railway operator KAI Regional Office 1 on Tuesday started to operate three new stations along the Duri-Tangerang line to serve passengers of commuter trains operated by PT Kereta Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ).

The three stations are Grogol, Taman Kota and Tanah Tinggi.

'€œWith the three new stations, we now have 11 stations along the Duri-Tangerang line that can serve commuters,'€ KCJ communication manager Eva Chairunisa said as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Tuesday.

KCJ president director M.N.Fadhila said the Duri-Tangerang line currently served around 37,000 users transported with 88 train trips every day.

It was predicted the figures would continue to increase because KCJ was aiming for commuter trains in Greater Jakarta to carry 1.2 million passengers every day by 2019, Fadhila said.

KCJ stated that with the operation of the three new stations to serve commuters, the company could improve its services to passengers.

Apart from adding service facilities, KCJ would also continue to increase the number of its commuter trains so that it could increase its passenger capacity and fulfill the need for public transportation.

From 2008 to 2015, KCJ said, it had bought 784 commuter trains and it will continue to increase to 1,400 as planned, so it can achieve the 1.2 million passenger target. (ebf)(+++)
