he Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has denied allegations that it has been fixing any matches between Indonesia and other teams at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
PSSI general secretary Azwan Karim said during a press conference on Tuesday night that he demanded that those making the allegations should come with proof, or they would otherwise be slander.
'Poor them: those players and officials who have fought for our country, yet have to receive such weak allegations,' Azwan said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Wednesday morning.
He said that Indonesia's soccer team was defeated by Thailand and Vietnam because the opposing teams performed better than Indonesia.
'It is clear that there is no match-fixing by our team,' he said.
Earlier, the Jakarta Legal Aid Foundation (LBH Jakarta) showed indications that match-fixing was behind the Indonesian soccer team's defeats by the Thai and Vietnamese teams at the 2015 Sea Games. The allegations were based on a tape recording of a conversation between a match fixer and a bookie. (ika)(+++)
