T

he journey of the founders of Kaskus, Indonesia's largest online forum, Andrew Darwis and Ken Dean Lawadinata, will be made into a film entitled Ken Andrew The Movie.

The biopic, produced by 700 Pictures, is based on Alberthiene Endah's Ken & Kaskus book.

'€œThe journey of Ken and Andrew in bringing Kaskus to where it is today is very interesting. The film is not just about friendship, but also tells about their struggle in developing it,'€ the film's producer Ade Sulistioputra told a press conference.

Dion Wiyoko, who starred in Merry Riana: Mimpi Sejuta Dolar, will play Ken and Albert Salim, who played Emon in the 2011 film Catatan si Boy, will be starring as Andrew.

The film, shot in Jakarta and Seattle, is directed by Naya Anindita and is currently in the production phase.

It is slated for release by the end of this year.

Ken hoped the movie could inspire not only Kaskusers, the name given to Kaskus members, but also others, to never give up on pursuing their dreams.

'€œWe've been invited by schools and companies to share our success story, but I think that's not enough. We need a bigger platform to convey our message to a broader audience,'€ he said.

Kaskus was developed by Andrew as a school project in 1999 when he was studying at Seattle University in Seattle, Washington, US. The partners moved the whole operation to Indonesia in 2008 and their business grew stronger.

From around 350,000 members in early 2008, it now has 8 million active members, 30,000 communities, 28 million visitors each month and 700 million page views per month. (dmr)(+++)
