Only a few women apply to lead KPK

ompared to men, the number of women applying to lead the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is very small, says Harkristuti Harkrisnowo, a member of the nine-member committee to select KPK leader hopefuls.

Out of 139 applicants, only eight have registered their participation with the selection committee, she said in a discussion on ideal KPK leaders here on Thursday.

'€œThis has something to do with the strong patrilineal culture in the country so that many women have lacked of moral support from their environment and family,'€ she said as quoted by kompas.com.

She said most women have been reluctant to take part in the selection for fresh fears that they would be criminalized.

'€œThis a real challenge the women are facing. That'€™s why we will go down to regions to persuade women to take part in the selection,'€ she said.

The registration will be open until June 25 so there are still more time for women to prepare all documents to fulfill all requirements, she said. (rms)
