House questions KPU over BPK'€™s findings

T

he House of Representatives'€™ Commission II overseeing home issues and regional autonomy, grilled on Monday the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Board about the findings of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) concerning irregularities during the election organization process in 2013 and 2014.

Commission chairman Rambe Kamarulzaman elaborated that the the hearing was mainly aimed at finding out what the KPU had to do in response to the BPK'€™s findings.

'€œIt turns out the BPK have only conducted 34 percent of the audit, yet many discrepancies are rising already. The KPU have also claimed that their audit is 75 percent completed. We want to clarify all spreading rumors,'€ Rambe said.

He added that the investigation into findings was expected not to affect the upcoming simultaneous regional elections scheduled for Dec. 9.

Meanwhile, KPU Chairman Husni Kamil Malik said that the commission would listen to all input given by the commission regarding the BPK's findings and would complete its tasks transparently.

Previously, Rambe had said the audit was conducted at the commission'€™s request because the funding for regional elections had ballooned from Rp 4 trillion (US$302 million) to Rp 7 trillion.(++++)
