KAI operating 106 trains for Idul Fitri holiday

S

tate-owned railway operator KAI Operation Region (DAOP) VI Yogyakarta said it had prepared 106 trains for this year'€™s Idul Fitri holiday.

It said 98 out of the total were regular trains while the eight others were additional trains. It was predicted that all of the trains could altogether carry 30,000 passengers every day.

'€œThe 106 trains, which consist of regular and additional trains, offer a passenger seat capacity of between 27,000 and 30,000 every day,'€ Solo Balapan station spokesperson Gatut Sutiatmoko said on Tuesday.

He said the trains would operate starting from July 7, concerning that the flow of homebound travelers was expected to begin 15 days before Idul Fitri and last through to July 26. KAI predicted that a jump in the number of passengers, who would return to their work places in big cities after celebrating Idul Fitri, would begin on July 22.

Gatut said the additional trains would comprise three executive trains, namely Argo Lawu, Sancaka and Taksaka, and one economy train, Pasundan.

'€œRegular trains from and to Surakarta will remain the same, namely Argo Dwipangga, Argo Lawu, Lodaya, and Senja Utama,'€ he said.

Separately, Solo Balapan station head Sigit Budi Antono said that starting from July 2 through to July 27, DAOP VI would operate Idul Fitri transportation posts.

'€œThe posts will monitor Idul Fitri train travel and become a center for holiday travelers to report complaints or problems during the holiday trip season,'€ said Sigit.

He said the Idul Fitri post at Solo Balapan station would be equipped with monitoring equipment in the form of a large screen connected to CCTV cameras installed on several sides of the station.

DAOP VI would also shift the operational lanes of several trains to ease congestion.

Sigit said long trip trains, both executive and economy classes, would be served at Solo Balapan station, while local trains would be served at Solo Jebres station. (ebf)(+++)
