Nurhadi said the defendant was part of an international drug syndicate, having been in cahoots with a Malaysian named Rizal.
'When the defendant picked up the contraband in Panton Labu, Rizal immediately contacted him by phone to tell him he would be paid Rp 20 million (about US$1,500) for carrying out the job,' said Nurhadi.
Mufaddam was arrested on Dec. 4 last year, when the car he was traveling in was stopped by police in Besitang.
