n Iraqi refugee, Hussein Hashim, was deported from Indonesia on Friday night after harassing two Indonesian women in an apartment in Jakarta.
Hashim had been reported by two women in Kalibata City Apartment, South Jakarta, for harassing them on two separate occasions.
'We have questioned him. We had to deport him immediately because we were only given one day to prove the case,' the Jakarta Police's general crimes director Sr. Comr. Khrisna Murti said on Saturday as quoted by tempo.co.
The police said the first incident happened on Monday when he attempted to hug and kiss a 19-year-old girl in an elevator of the apartment. The girl then reported the incident to the apartment's security.
Meanwhile, the second incident happened on Wednesday when Hussein again harassed another girl also in the apartment elevator.
Khrisna said that the police had questioned Hussein and coordinated with the South Jakarta Immigration Office to check his status. Hussein was reportedly granted refugee status by the UNHCR.
The immigration office then decided to deport the refugee to Iraq on Friday night along with case notes outlining his wrongdoings.
Khrisna also said that deportation was considered to be the harshest punishment for a refugee such as Hussein. (fsu/ika)
