C

orruption defendant Abdul Rauf died of a heart attack during a hearing at the Kendari Corruption Court of Southeast Sulawesi on Thursday.

Abdul, who was former president director of a company owned by Kolaka regency, was charged for corruption for his alleged involvement in the disbursement of company funds in the amount of Rp 600 million (US$44,943) to a regency official.

'€œDuring the testimony of the company'€™s director of general affairs, who confirmed Abdul approved the disbursement, the defendant denied [the charge] and got emotional. He fell and his head hit his lawyer'€™s desk,'€ the court'€™s chairman Jaresmen Purba said.

Abdul lost consciousness and was then rushed to nearby Santa Ana Hospital. He died a few hours later, kompas.com reported.
